Overalls for cooks
Catering establishments attract visitors like a magnet if they serve delicious food. It is clear that the main character - the king of the kitchen - is the chef, because it is on his culinary abilities that the attendance of each cafe and restaurant depends. However, the specifics of the work of the ubiquitous boss and his assistants is such that they have to work in overalls.
Basic requirements for overalls for cooks
Chef's uniform must be attractive and meet current sanitary standards. What other requirements are put forward for products of this kind?
• Convenience. Overalls for kitchen workers should not hamper human movements and must be hygroscopic. It is necessary that the body breathes, which is especially important in the kitchen - in an atmosphere of high humidity and changing temperatures. In addition, the base material must be hypoallergenic, that is, not irritate the wearer's skin.
• Practicality. During cooking, uniforms easily get dirty: splashes of oil, liquids when cutting food, and so on can be to blame. Therefore, chef's overalls should have water and grease repellent qualities, and in the long term - be well cleaned from the resulting pollution. Even the suits of kitchen workers are in contact with ovens, hobs and similar appliances. Conclusion: clothing must have low flammability and should not be afraid of high temperatures. The practicality of special suits lies in their wear resistance, because during operation such products will have to be washed daily.
• Aesthetics. Food service workers should make a good impression on others. And this means that overalls must be neat and attractive.
It is noteworthy that purity in its usual sense is symbolized by white. However, snow-white chef's overalls will look untidy very soon. Therefore, in fact, almost any light shade of uniform is used. Often, employees of different professions - waiters, dishwashers, cooks - wear kits that differ from each other in color schemes: it is easier to identify the specialization of staff.
As for the fabrics used in the tailoring of overalls for kitchen workers, it is usually a blended or cotton material. To make products more resistant to the development of pathogenic microorganisms, threads containing silver chloride can be woven into the warp. And sometimes the material is impregnated with special substances that provide an antimicrobial effect.
What is a cook's uniform?
As for clothes for chefs, the standard kit may include:
• loose trousers (usually with an elastic band);
• cap/kerchief/cap (the chef's hair must be tucked under a headdress, beard and mustache - if any - are covered with a mask);
• an apron (an optional, but often found element - helps protect the main cook's suit from contamination, the composition of the fabric is polyester and cotton in a combination of 60% to 30%);
• a working blouse/jacket/robe (the cut of the collar is closed, the sleeves are fastened with Velcro or buttons, the length of the product is up to the middle of the thigh, the presence of small accessories and excess details is unacceptable).
By the way, wearing a tunic is the prerogative of the chef. Often this element of overalls continues the style chosen for a particular cafe or restaurant. It is decorated with the logo of the catering establishment, the name of the chief specialist in the kitchen is applied to it. There is a special ceremonial tunic: in it the chef appears before the bright eyes of visitors during the presentation of the main dish.
Often, cooks use a neckerchief. By the way, this piece of chef's clothing is very useful. A specialist can always wipe off the sweat that appears during the work process with it.
A chef's outfit would not be complete without the right work shoes. This element of the toilet should be comfortable and light. Most often in the kitchen they wear clogs or clogs. Important: these unisex shoes are suitable for all professionals, regardless of gender.
